City Winery Boston presents Mark O'Connor - Crossing Bridges (A Retrospective on His Childhood Years in Music) live in concert on Wednesday, March 8th at 7:30PM. With three Grammy wins, seven CMA Awards, and multiple national fiddle, guitar, and mandolin champion titles, Mark O’Connor’s music and career truly defies categories. In his new partnership with Skyline Artists, Mark has created the “Mark O’Connor Duo” for performing arts centers. The concert features both his originals and classics, and it highlights his violin, guitar, mandolin and vocals along with his wife, Grammy-winning Maggie O’Connor. Going back several decades, he’s been a member of legendary ensembles the David Grisman Quintet, The Dregs, and Strength In Numbers with Bela Fleck, Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas, and Edgar Meyer. His solo career includes the multiple Grammy-winning album “New Nashville Cats” featuring his hit “Restless” with Ricky Skaggs, Vince Gill and Steve Wariner; and the hit sequel song “Devil Comes Back To Georgia” with Charlie Daniels, Johnny Cash, Travis Tritt and Marty Stuart on his Grammy-nominated “Heroes” album. Then there are recordings with Yo-Yo Ma, “Appalachia Waltz” and “Appalachian Journey” which sold one million copies and 250+ symphony performances of his “Fiddle Concerto.” His TNN tv show “American Music Shop” had a four-year run with guests ranging from Bo Diddley to Emmylou Harris. Currently, due out in April 2021, new release of solo guitar – “Markology II.” Now his Mark O’Connor Duo with his wife and violinist Maggie O’Connor surveys his entire career along with new material.  Their incredible musical chemistry led to yet another Grammy award, this time for Best Bluegrass Album “Coming Home.”

The Jeff Picker band features Jeff Picker on bass and vocals, Frank Rische on guitar and vocals, Eddie Barbash on saxophone, and Eli Bishop fiddle. They are among the brightest young stars in contemporary American music. Jazz, bluegrass, country and more. Collectively they have performed with Ricky Skaggs, Nickel Creek, Sarah Jarosz, Chico Hamilton, Wynton Marsalis, Yo-Yo Ma, Lenny Kravitz, Vince Gill, Parliament, Sierra Hull, Lee Ann Womack, Jim Lauderdale, Tanya Tucker, Aubrie Sellers, Jenny Lynn, Miranda Lambert, Sierra Ferrell,  Dolly Parton, etc....

We're thrilled to return to the wonderful Rose Garden!  Great acoustics in a warm and friendly listening room, and yummy desserts during intermission!  What more could you ask for?  :>)

Composer Carol Barnett has composed The World Beloved: A Bluegrass Mass. She has combined the solemnity of a Mass with the downhome energy and invigorating rhythms of bluegrass.  The performance will be accompanied by Monroe Crossing. The two groups will also perform arrangements by Kevin Siegfried of Shaker Hymns. Monroe Crossing will also perform a set of their own music with their special blends of bluegrass.

Grant Gordy is a "guitar genius" according to Bluegrass Today. On mandolin is Dominick Leslie, who played with the Deadly Gentlemen, Noam Pikelny, and Hawktail, and is currently with Molly Tuttle and Golden Highway. Alex Hargreaves on fiddle has performed with Punch Brothers, Bela Fleck, Jerry Douglas, Steve Martin, Sierra Hull, and everyone else in bluegrass. He is currently a member of Billy Strings’ band. Aidan O’Donnell on bass is a member of Mr. Sun, along with Darol Anger, Grant, and Joe Walsh. He has played with Steve Kuhn and jazz guitarist Ben Monder, among many others. Grant’s brand-new album, Peripheral Visions, has received rave reviews. He is also on the cover of  Acoustic Guitar Magazine and Jazz Guitar Magazine this month!  

A joyous evening of high energy bluegrass in the beautifully restored Sanford Springvale Historical Museum.  Doors open 6:45.  Concert begins at 7:30.  Refreshments during intermission. On Saturday April 29. the Concord Conservatory of Music continues their American Roots series with Southern Rail.  Southern Rail's bluegrass is high octane exuberant fun with stunning harmonies, irrepressible good humor and sparkling banjo, guitar and mandolin.    

Five seasoned musicians from Southern New England, this bluegrass band has been receiving lots of attention and radio airplay lately. They were a 2021 IBMA Showcase band.
