At the Joe Val Bluegrass Festival, we hold a series of directed slow jams to help beginning and intermediate pickers learn how to jam, both rhythm and lead. Some jams even focus on harmony singing. The jam leader keeps the speed of songs and tunes slow enough so that everyone can join in. You can attempt to play a lead solo when the turn comes to you, or simply play rhythm in the background. Directed slow jams are a terrific way to get used to the jam environment.
Check the festival program (when you arrive at Joe Val) for the location of the directed slow jams.
