Teacher Training Workshop at the Joe Val Festival

We'll be offering our fourth annual Teacher Training workshop at the Joe Val Festival this coming Sunday, February 16, 2008. Please email for more information!

Ongoing Programs

We are planning a series of performance presentations of bluegrass and traditional American music in the schools. In order to do this, we need your help! If you are a parent of a school age child in a district within the I-495 area, you may be able to interest your local school in hosting a presentation. The schools are much more interested when ideas come directly from parents.

The presentations demonstrate and explain bluegrass music and instruments, and give a historical overview of bluegrass and pre-bluegrass musical styles (both traditional and contemporary). The presentations highlight the musical connections between bluegrass and related musical forms, and explain the context of bluegrass music as an American musical form. The band will perform selections of various musical styles along the way. The show lasts about 50 minutes. Please let the BBU know if you have any thoughts on how to arrange one of these programs in a local school. For more info please contact us.

NEEDED: INSTRUMENTS FOR OUR NEW PETTING ZOO!

Thanks to all who have donated instruments for our petting zoo -- these have already been used in workshops, and they'll get a lot more use! The petting zoo of bluegrass instruments to show the kids during school presentations and at festivals and other BBU events. Deering Banjos has donated a banjo to get us started.

Please help! If you have an old guitar, mandolin or fiddle that's been sitting in the attic (but is still playable), please consider donating it to our zoo before Joe Val. We especially need child-sized fiddles!
